Ciao! My name is Courtney Hooks and I am from Everett, Washington! I went to Everett High School for three years, and got the opportunity to go to Liceo Scientifico “Boggio Lera” in Catania, Sicily in Italy for my junior year. It was extremely life changing and is actually what sparked my interest in physics! I am entering my Sophomore year and I intend to double major in Physics and Astronomy. I haven’t always been sure about Astrophysics but after a break from STEM in the summer through a study abroad in South Korea where I only focused on Korean Culture and Language, I’ve come back to the UW with more certainty and motivation in pursuing astrophysics than ever! When I’m not in classes, I like to do makeup, learn languages, watch videos on YouTube about the universe and engage with international students. International engagement and language are a big interest of mine and I hope to find a way to intertwine that with my major!
