Tsunami Maritime Hazard Assessement for Westport, WA

Work in progress, 2021-2022

This modeling project by Carrie Garrison-Laney and Randall LeVeque and Loyce Adams will be submitted to EMD, WGS DNR and Westport, WA for use in designing a maritime hazard plan for Westport Harbor, WA. This project was funded in part by Washington State Emergency Management Division (EMD).

Animations of particle tracking (under construction)

Massless tracer particles help visualize the water motion and how lightweight floating objects might move with it. This is not a realistic model for the motion of large-scale debris or boats, whose motion depends on its mass, drag factors, etc. and which might be grounded and stationary in sufficiently shallow water.

  • AK_westport_15min.mp4 -- AKmaxWA at MHW, 15 minutes on Fgmax region 1 with mass and grounding added to the red particles that start on land. The blue ones in the water are massless tracer particles.

  • AK_marina_1hr.mp4 -- AKmaxWA at MHW, 60 minutes on Fgmax region 2 (marina). Tracer particles with length.

  • CSZ_L1 on West Coast -- No particles.

  • CSZ_L1_westport_1hr.mp4 -- CSZ L1 at MHW, 60 minutes on Fgmax region 1 with mass and grounding added to the red particles that start on land. The blue ones in the water are massless tracer particles.

  • CSZ_L1_marina_1hr.mp4 -- CSZ L1 at MHW, 60 minutes on Fgmax region 2 (marina). Tracer particles with length.
