Consider the following questions when using a specialty growth chart:
  • Does the child have the same disorder as the children used to compile the chart? For example:
  • Are there other differences between the individual and the group used to construct the chart? For example, feeding modality, use of growth hormone or other medications that might affect growth
  • Was the source of the data reliable? How large was the sample? Is there a genetic basis for an atypical growth pattern?
  • Are you using the same measurement techniques that were used to collect the data for the charts?
