4.) What operations may be done in portal hypertension and what is the goal of surgery?

The goal of surgery is reduction of portal pressure. Types of operations are as follows:


  • Portocaval shunt - end to side or side to side

  • Mesocaval shunt

  • Splenorenal shunt - central or distal
