9.) What are the indications for surgery?

Indications for surgery:
- Failure of intensive medical therapy
- Recurrence of symptoms immediately after stopping medications, thus requiring long term therapy
- Early stricture
- Barrett's esophagus: surgery may stop progression of disease though it may or may not regress
- Atypical symptoms such as chest pain, asthma, chronic cough, or hoarseness
