| 1.) What are the screening strategies for colorectal cancer?

Screening is for asymptomatic individuals. Screening strategies include:
- Tests for fecal occult blood annually - may have false negatives and false positives - lowers stage of disease at time of diagnosis which translates into better survival.
- Digital rectal exam annually after age 50
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy - suggested every 5 years after age 50
- Barium enema + sigmoidoscopy every 5 years
- Colonoscopy - suggested every 10 years after age 50 - important diagnostic test.
