COLORECTAL DISEASE
Case #2 -
A 32 year old with bloody diarrhea

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
7.) What is the role of colonoscopy in ulcerative colitis?

Colonoscopy should be performed after the initial acute presentation is stable in order to determine the extent of the disease. Colonoscopy is not needed to determine response to treatment as clinical response is adequate. Colonoscopy is also important in surveillance for cancer since the risk for development of colon cancer is 1% per year.
