A 62 year old white male presents to the ER with left lower quadrant pain which has been increasing over the past 2 days. He does note some constipation but denies any blood per rectum. He has a fever of 100.5 F. He is otherwise healthy with no past medical history and no significant family history. His exam is normal except left lower quadrant tenderness. Labs are significant for a white count of 15,000.
