PANCREAS
Case #4 -
A 75 year old lady presents with jaundice

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
4.) Are there any useful tumor markers for pancreatic cancer?

The most useful tumor marker is CA 19-9, monoclonal antibody to Lewis blood group antigen. A value >1000 is diagnostic and a value >500 is likely due to pancreatic carcinoma. Sensitivity is 80% and small lesions may not be detected. Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) may be elevated but is nonspecific.
