PANCREAS
Case #4 -
A 75 year old lady presents with jaundice

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
6.) What diagnostic tests and imaging studies would help you make the diagnosis?

Diagnostic evaluation of a patient with suspected pancreatic carcinoma:

  • Ultrasound examination: detect dilated bile ducts typical of obstructive jaundice

  • CT scan: pancreatic mass and liver metastases

  • Endoscopic ultrasound: evaluate the mass, assess for vascular invasion, detect enlarged nodes, possible biopsy or FNA of mass

  • ERCP: evaluate ducts and place stent if necessary to alleviate jaundice
