DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
4.) What are other tests that are useful in confirming a diagnosis of insulinoma in this patient?

Tests to confirm the diagnosis of insulinoma:

  • Fasting hypoglycemia with inappropriately high levels of insulin

  • Ratio of plasma insulin to glucose greater than 0.3

  • Proinsulin level is >25% of insulin

  • Insulin antibodies present if prolonged self administration of insulin

  • C-peptide level is undetectable in factitious hypoglycemia, elevated in insulinoma
