5.) How do you examine the patient who complains of nipple discharge?
|
Physical examination in a patient complaining of nipple discharge:
- Note presence of mass or lymphadenopathy.
- Elicit discharge by milking the entire breast from the chest wall up towards the nipple followed by compression of the lactiferous sinuses behind the nipple. Note the o'clock position of the discharging duct.
- Check hemoccult test of fluid to confirm presence of blood.
- Look for signs of hypothyroidism.
- Test visual fields.
