3.) What else could cause acute ischemia of the limb? Why is this unlikely in this man?

Acute ischemia of the limb may also be caused by an in situ thrombosis of an artery diseased from atherosclerosis. This is unlikely in this patient since he has no history of claudication or rest pain and he does not smoke. Also, the normal vascular physical examination of the opposite leg is more consistent with embolism of the affected leg.
