COLORECTAL DISEASE
Case #7 -
A 70 year old female with passing bright red blood per rectum

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
11.) What operative procedures may be required?

If the source of bleeding is known, a segmental bowel resection may be done. If the source is thought to be large bowel but the site is not known, a total colectomy with ileoproctostomy is advised. If the source is not known, the small bowel can be transilluminated at laparotomy and intraoperative enteroscopy may be done.
