What Is Upward Bound?

Upward Bound is federally funded program which has two major goals:

1. To encourage and assist students to graduate from high school.

2.To prepare students to enter and complete a postsecondary education program.

We are one of one 500 Upward Bound Programs in the United States.

This program at the University of Washington's Office of Minority Affairs is a year round program serving qualified students at Nathan Hale, Franklin, and Cleveland High Schools. Our program is structured in two components that are described below.

Most students are admitted the semester before the Summer Program. All students must attend all summers until graduation as well as enroll in at least one semester during the academic year.

All new students are no probation. Probation lasts for one quarter during the Academic Year and for two weeks during the Summer Program. During this time, students are not eligible for stipends.
