Context:

About NAMI-Eastside: We are a community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for those impacted by a mental health condition through Advocacy, Community Awareness, Education, and Support. We seek to fill gaps in Washington’s mental health system, with an intentional emphasis on racial equity and breaking down barriers to care.  We are seeking motivated, compassionate, professional Program Assistants to deliver to populations in diverse and rural communities throughout East King County.

 

Work Description:

 

Scope of Work:  The role of the Program Assistants is to assist the Program Manager and staff with the following programs:  Family-to-Family, Family & Friends, Peer-to-Peer, Cope2Thrive, Youth Ambassadors, Family Support and Connection Peer Support Groups, In Our Own Voice, and Ending-The-Silence. Additionally, Program Assistants will have the opportunity to work with other staff, board memebers, and volunteers to advance NAMI Eastside’s mission.

Responsibilities Include:

·         Coordinate and support courses and trainings including materials, technology, and logistics

·         Volunteer management:  including recruiting, interviewing, training, leading volunteers and managing intake and tracking paperwork, managing and refining volunteer roles as needed

·         Communications: content creation for online and print media, support new communication initiatives, and support development initiatives

·         Foster relationships with community partner organizations and schools to promote NAMI Eastside programming

·         Overcome language and cultural barriers and create connection and community

·         Monitor and update Spanish-language resources on the website (if applicable)

·         Conducting presentations

·         Translation from English to Spanish (if applicable)

 

Impact:

NAMI Eastside has formed valuable connections with our community partners to learn more about their communities’ needs and the barriers that people in communities of color face when they seek mental health services.  This service-learning position will be committed to helping to remove those barriers by supporting the expansion of services and helping to improve the quality of our services.

Requirements:

Must be 18 years old
Other paperwork: Completion and submission of NAMI Eastside Volunteer and Intern Application
Background check required

 

Skills needed

  • ·         Excellent written and oral communication skills. ·         Preferred: Bi-Lingual in Spanish/English. ·         Interest in working with people living with a mental illness, or a community mental health agency, hospital, or other healthcare sectors preferred.   ·         Strong organizational and administrative skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, database management, and online platforms such as Zoom
  • ·         Ability to pleasantly interact with a variety of audiences.
  • ·         Experience making presentations.
  • ·         Currently working toward a degree in Social Work, Psychology or other related fields preferred.
  • ·         Familiarity with East King County communities.

  • Times are flexible.  NAMI Eastside office hours are typically Mon – Thu, 10am – 4pm. Activities for this role may require some evening and weekend availability.
