Est Corpus Meum/This is My Body: Performance and Embodiment in the Early Middle Ages.
In this seminar we will examine documents and scholarship associated with what has been traditionally regarded as the “rebirth” of theatre and drama in the Roman Catholic liturgy after several centuries of its repression by the Christian Church. From purported roots in  antiphonal chants to full-fledged passion plays, scholars have wrestled over what these documents actually meant to medieval believers (as well as how they were used to foment violence against unbelievers).
