In this seminar-style course we’ll take a look at how museums use theatre and performance to meet educational goals in a different way than through traditional exhibits and programming. We’ll examine a range of performance forms from auditorium-style plays to immersive and interactive performance programs. How does museum performance create knowledge, change minds, or offer opportunities to witness and embody the experiences of others? Readings cover foundational and recent work on museum theatre and performance, including Catherine Hughes, Rebecca Schneider, Susan Bennett, Anthony Jackson, etc.
