Messages to Ukrainian & Russian continuing students from ISS

We (GEMS) wanted to let you know that the International Student Services office (ISS) has communicated with both Russian and Ukrainian continuing international students with the following messages:

F-1/J-1 students with Ukrainian citizenship:
We’re reaching out to you regarding the news of what has happened in your home country, Ukraine. We understand that this time can be very difficult, and we wanted to let you know that we are here for you.
If you’re interested in talking about how you’re feeling, we encourage you to reach out to the Counseling Center for support. Trained counselors can talk to you about how you’re navigating the challenges and the on-going stresses of studying during the pandemic.

We also want to share emergency aid resources if you are concerned about finances or access to resources during this time of instability. The UW Combined Fund Drive has also organized a list of charities supporting Ukrainians.

The ISS staff care very much about your wellbeing and success. We want to provide assistance during this difficult time and can answer any immigration questions you have about your F/J visa status. Please reach out if you have concerns about your status. We also recommend connecting with our campus partners at CIRCLE, who can connect you with other helpful resources on campus.

Please take care of yourself and reach out if we can provide additional support.

Sincerely,
Kim Lovaas
Director of International Student Services
