AEP Test, AEP Courses, and Appeal Interview

This message is shared on behalf of International & English Language Programs Office:
We are pleased to announce that the AEP (Academic English Program) test will be available online later this month, so please share this information with your students who are currently required to take AEP courses.

AEP Test:

  • Online AEP testing and registration information will be available on the website (to be updated in mid-August): https://www.washington.edu/assessment/testing-center/tests/aep/
  • Currently the center is not able to offer in-person testing due to COVID-19. It’s anticipated that online test dates will be available in late August and September.

Students with an English language proficiency requirement (Memo 8):

  • Register for AEP course (ENGL 102, 103, 104) for Autumn 2020.
  • Note: All AEP courses are offered remotely Autumn 2020. Some sections will be online asynchronous, while others will be remote with synchronous class times. Please refer to the Time Schedule.

Students who were admitted with Duolingo English Test or TOEFL ITP Plus for China (Memo 8):

  • Register to take all sections of the AEP test.
  • Note: Those students do not take the AEP test will be required to register for all AEP courses (ENGL 102, 103, 104).

Students who are offered a Teaching Assistantship and have satisfied the English language proficiency requirement (Memo 8), but have not yet satisfied the additional spoken English language requirement (Memo 15) have the following options to satisfy Memo 15 requirements:

  • Pass ENGL 105: English for International Teaching Assistants, offered remotely Autumn 2020. Please refer to the Time Schedule.
  • Pass an appeal interview. Departments may request an appeal interview through the Catalyst survey
  • Note: Because the Versant English Test is not currently available online or in-person, the appeal interview process is being opened to ALL students (who have met Memo 8), regardless of speaking section scores.
