Admissions Challenges Under New Executive Order

Graduate School Dean David Eaton sent the below message (excerpted) to graduate programs on February 1, 2017.

With the recent Executive Order potentially impacting student entry into the US, many of you have asked how you should handle admission applications specifically from the seven countries identified in the Executive Order. The Graduate School strongly recommends that you continue to give these students full consideration, just as you would have prior to the Executive Order. If a student who is offered admission is not able to attend because of visa restrictions, we encourage you to work with the student and provide them a deferral to another quarter or to the following year. If a student does not wish to defer, the Graduate School will refund the application fee and the Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD) if appropriate.

Please feel to call GEMS at 206.685.2630 or e-mail uwgrad@uw.edu with any concerns.

We have updated our International Applicant Information page with links to our president’s message of welcome and also a portal with resources. Please share with your applicants and students as appropriate.
