The Players Instrument assignments are listed below. Everyone has chosen one wind and one string instrument to approach as either a learner or a teacher. Names in (parentheses) indicate the teaching partner for the instrument lessons. For example, Deryl will be playing trumpet and Ginger will be teaching him. All performance assessments as well as the final performance jury will be completed on your taught instrument. Performers can obtain instruments for the term through Metropolitan Music. You may also purchase appropriate method books (also available at Metropolitan Music), one for the instrument you are learning and one for the instrument you are teaching. You are welcome to rent your teaching instrument as well, though this is not required.
The Teachers To provide an ongoing opportunity to engage with young instrumentalists, each of you will be attached to a selected music class at an area elementary school. You will be expected to be present at your chosen class each week -- arrive early so that you are ready to go as soon as the students begin entering the classroom. Naturally, professional dress and demeanor are required. Our teaching partner in the Seattle Public Schools, Ms. Elizabeth Knighton, can be contacted via email at ejknighton@seattleschools.org.
