Resident Projects

This will serve as a repository for the resources and projects residents work on during the rotation.

1) Crystal Shen – PCP follow up calls

2) Katie Griffin – Physical Findings Rounds Curriculum Development

SUMMARY: I am working on developing a physical exam rounding curriculum for MS3's during their inpatient pediatrics rotation with help from Laura Ellington and Sahar Rooholamini. This curriculum will consist of common general pediatrics topics well suited to bedside teaching that seniors may use and add to throughout their Team 7 month. The first 2 sessions were piloted during Block 2, and were 15-20 minute bedside teaching sessions on hypertonia in a CP patient and the pediatric respiratory exam. The teaching was well received by students, and the goal is to hold these sessions at least once every other week after noon conference.

Sigi Wolf has developed a handy outline of heart murmur teaching, found here: heart-murmur-teaching

Tiana Won has developed a great overview of the abdominal exam with video resources, found here: Pediatric Abdominal Exam

3) Block 2 Seniors and Chiefs – UW Peds Website Upgrades/Reconstruction

SUMMARY: In conjunction with Scott Olson and Mollie Grow, we are currently editing the electives page to provide more useful information to residents, both when choosing and preparing for an elective. We have since started a live social media feed (for added intrigue) to the site and a calendar of events. Further work includes updating, adding, and reorganizing resources. Our goal is to make the UWPeds website a useful tool for all residents on a daily basis. Check out the progress at https://depts.washington.edu/uwpeds/residents/!

4) Carmela Carrasco and Tim Savage – Senior Journal Club

SUMMARY: Started by our own R3s after being inspired by journal clubs at HMC, this journal club will take place on a monthly basis on Thursdays during lunch as an opportunity to review primary literature on important pediatrics topics. The first ever journal club tackled the evidence behind antibiotics for, and work up of, neonatal fever.

5) Juliana Clough, Anne Coleman and Sigi Wolf- Inpatient Documentation Checklist

SUMMARY: In collaboration with the SCH Billing and Compliance department, Team 7 seniors developed an easy-to-use, colorful guide to inpatient H&Ps and daily progress notes, which can be found here: Documentation Checklist_Inpatient
