Seattle Magazine Needs Digital Intern

Seattle magazine is seeking a digital intern for a three-month term to work closely with the senior digital editor and other staff editors to gain hands-on experience in maintaining the web presence of Seattle’s premier city magazine. This is a fast-paced, fun internship that requires organization, good verbal communication skills, love of the written word and a sincere interest in learning the basic tools of the web, including content management systems, working and researching on the Internet, blogging, SEO and social media.

The Seattlemag.com intern will:

  • Assist in updating our site with fresh content from the print edition, including calendar events, charitable events, restaurant and shopping listings, party pictures and select articles
  • Pitch ideas and write weekly for the blog on Seattlemag.com
  • Write headlines to SEO standards under guidance of online editor
  • Assist with Seattle magazine’s Pinterest page in accordance with our social media guidelines
  • Look through our social media pages for the best comments, tweets and posts to appear in the Seattle magazine’s monthly letters to the editor column
  • Write and compile the weekly Restaurant Insider newsletter
  • Attend events or photo shoots as necessary for blogging or behind-the-scenes video purposes

The Seattlemag.com intern should have the following skills:

  • A sincere interest in the Internet, blogs and social networking
  • Serious attention to detail
  • Blogging, CMS and social media experience
  • An interest in Seattle and what’s going on around the city
  • Basic knowledge of SEO and keyword search
  • Basic Photoshop skills
  • Ability to follow formatting standards
  • Willingness to be a part of a team

As an intern, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for producing this premier monthly publication and its website. You will be called upon regularly to use your excellent verbal communication and research skills. Observing life in the city, interns are the eyes, ears and feet of the magazine. You will work on a wide range of projects, from the glamorous to the granular. This is a teaching internship and is unpaid except for a small stipend upon completion. It requires a commitment of four hours a day, five days a week for three months. Flexible morning and afternoon shifts.
