The City of Seattle Office of Economic Development is seeking an undergraduate student to support the Office of Economic Development and Office of Film + Music and Special Events communications team by collaborating on day-to-day written and visual communications needs.

The Office of Economic Development nourishes Seattle’s economy. The Office of Film + Music and Special Events permits film, music and special events, while working to bring more media production to Seattle. They are also the City’s liaison to Seattle’s world famous music industry.

Educational Benefit to Student:

The intern will learn a variety of skills necessary for a career in communications.  The intern will learn how to write, edit and post blogs, Facebook and Twitter messages, take photographs, draft press releases and more.  Interns will also learn how to deal with complex political issues and how to work with high profile professionals.

 Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Must be enrolled in an accredited educational program preferably studying English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or similar area of study. Undergraduate interns must maintain a satisfactory GPA of 2.0 or higher for the duration of the internship.

Experience:

  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to write professional drafts with minimal editing.
  • Flexible and willing to help as needed.
  • Be comfortable with social media in a professional setting.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Some experience with photography and/or video.
  • Experience with graphic design.
 Additional Information:
Start/End Dates:  Internship will start in late September/early October.  The end date is negotiable depending on availability and graduation date.

Schedule:  Intern will work 20 hours/week.  Work hours are flexible and can be scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Salary:  Undergraduates will be paid $15.73/hour.
