Art Gallery Internship – Gallery I|M|A

Internship description:
Part-time internships are intended for those interested in gaining knowledge and hands-on experience in the gallery business.  Not only does this opportunity allow you to familiarize yourself with the physicality of gallery work, but also practice in effective communication with variety of individuals holding varying interests, perspectives, and needs.  Through guided training, self-initiated research, and direct application, you will gain perspective and experience within the business of art sales.

Skills recommended:
-Individuals with prior experience in customer service may be given preference, as positive customer relations are among our highest priorities.
-A background in art history is preferred but not required.
-For installation and art handling purposes, intern must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities:
-Intern will acquire knowledge and hands-on experience in the daily operations of the art gallery, receiving training in various tasks from facilitating sales to basic gallery upkeep.
-Must be comfortable greeting and assisting clientele, and answering questions in person, over the phone, and via email.
-Intern will receive hands-on training in art handling, installation and lighting, and will be encouraged to attend opening events.

Business Hours:
Tuesday – Saturday, 10:30 am – 5:30 pm. Candidates should be willing to commit to a minimum of two days per week and have a flexible schedule.
Note: A paid position is also available and may be inquired about if (and only if) the interested candidate: 1) Is able to afford greater time commitment (4-5 days per week), and 2) Is willing to accept additional responsibilities and expectations.
