Paid Intern – Seattle Channel

Position Description

The Seattle Channel, the City of Seattle’s award-winning municipal TV station, seeks an undergraduate intern to work with the communications and web teams to conceptualize and create content for multiple outputs including the web and social media. The intern will collaborate on social media and outreach efforts to help amplify stories and enhance audience engagement.  This position reports to the web & multimedia team but will also collaborate with video specialists, the communications manager, and the general manager.

Educational Benefit to Student:

The intern will help with the Seattle Channel’s communications and social media needs, including social media production, e-newsletters, blogs, press releases, and marketing. Skills gained include new knowledge on social media production and strategy, data analytics, video editing, and digital design.Job Responsibilities

  • Create and schedule social media posts promoting Seattle Channel’s original content (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social channels)
  • Assist in developing and implementing social media campaigns in support of Seattle Channel programming, events and initiatives
  • Assist in conceptualizing and producing promo videos, video clips, and photo galleries for social media
  • Assist with production of weekly e-newsletter
  • Edit and write content for the Take 21 blog
  • Use data analytics and social media guidelines to create consistent, meaningful and timely posts that engage and expand Seattle Channel’s digital audience
  • Maintain overall branding and program objectives
  • Understand and uphold ethics and mission of Seattle Channel; align work with the City of Seattle’s Race and Social Justice Initiative

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Open to all 2 and 4 year college students enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year educational program; and all graduate students enrolled in an accredited graduate program.
  • 2 and 4 year college students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship.

Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Aptitude for and interest in storytelling through editing
  • Experience working with social media platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and collaboration skills
  • Ability to follow directions and receive and implement feedback
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, attentive to details and technologically savvy
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize, juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and keep track of delivery and publication dates
  • Aptitude for learning new tools quickly
  • Reflect Seattle Channel and City of Seattle’s values and commitment to equity.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, programs like Photoshop and Premiere
  • Familiar with data analytic tools for the web and social media
  • Familiar with AP Style
  • Experience working in a Content Management System (CMS)
  • HTML coding experience
  • Basic graphic design skills
  • Interest in public sector, local public affairs, arts, Seattle community, and social justice.

Additional Information

Start/End Dates:  Early January to Early-to-Late June.

Schedule:  Flexible work schedule of Monday through Friday and between the hours of 9am – 5pm, with a maximum of 15 hours per week.

Salary:  Students from 2-year and 4-year colleges will be paid $16.56/hour.
