Center For Wooden Boats – Poster Design Competition

The 44th Annual Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival Art Competition

Entries Due: February 8, 2020
Participants will be notified by February 14, 2020

Calling All Artists! 44th Annual Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival Art Competition Now underway!!

The theme of the annual Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival is the heritage of wooden boats. The ambiance is that of an old-fashioned, down-home waterfront festival where everything is fun, almost everything is free and nothing much is fancy. It’s as authentically grassroots American as you can get and has been for the past 44 years.

The Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival is one of the best family entertainment values in the Seattle area. The Heritage Wooden Boats theme is merely a guideline; artists may interpret as they wish. For inspiration or to see past Festival posters, please visit https://www.cwb.org/poster-exhibit.

Anyone is welcome to submit an entry. Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges consisting of CWB staff and volunteers selected by CWB’s Events Manager.

The winning artist may be given feedback by the selection committee while in the completion process. Therefore, applicants MUST be willing to alter their design based on recommendations from the committee. The finished art will be used on Festival posters, postcards, t-shirts and for advertising and branding purposes. Therefore, the art should be both visually appealing as well as attention-grabbing, and the artist and committee will work together to achieve this goal. Please be aware that once the art is complete, text and sponsor logos will be added by someone other than the artist to transform the artwork into the 2020 Festival Poster.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES:

  1. Submit one sketch or mock up of your entry. It does not need to be a finished piece, but should be representative of what you intend to create.

  2. Submit at least three other samples of your work, which are indicative of your distinct ‘style’.

  3. Submit an artist bio and an artist statement about your entry. If you have a particular connection to wooden boats, please describe it. You may submit a link to your website in lieu of three examples if you wish.

  4. Include complete contact information, including address, phone, and email.
