Old Fire House Teen Center seeks Teaching Artists for Youth Workshops

About Old Fire House Teen Center

The Old Fire House Teen Center empowers teens through art and service leadership opportunities.

Located in the heart of downtown Redmond, teens middle through high school are encouraged to join us to explore their passions, connect with friends, learn new skills, practice leadership among peers and have a good time in a uniquely teen centered space. We focus on process and youth voice in everything we do.

We celebrated our 25th anniversary in 2018 and are proud of our roots as the longest standing all ages event center in the Seattle area. Today, we’re growing and changing to reflect the interests of youth today.

Call for Artists Opportunity

The Old Fire House Teen Center Teen Arts Committee (TAC) would like to host a monthly art and craft series that is open to all skill levels wherein teens can follow step by step instruction and learn fun techniques from a professional artist.

Artists are invited to submit proposals for a 1 hour online art and/or craft workshop for teens. Artists may submit for multiple individual workshops (i.e. watercolor flowers, zentangles, zines etc.) or a series of workshops (i.e. watercolor flowers, watercolor landscapes, watercolor portraits etc.). We hope to include 15 minutes at the end of each session for an informal Q&A with the artist and teens. There will also be a 15 minute setup prior to the workshop to test the audio and visual connection. We also ask artists to check in for 15 minutes with the Teen Art Committee one month prior to their scheduled workshop. The total online time commitment is 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The goal is to help build community among creative teens, provide a free opportunity for young artists to meet and learn from professional artists, while supporting local artists through the stipend.

Budget

Selected artists will receive $125 total for leading an individual workshop, prep time, and materials. If selected for multiple workshops, the artist will receive $125 per workshop. The artist will provide their own materials and compile a supply checklist for participants to procure at least one week prior to the workshop. We ask artists to adapt their lessons to include lower cost supplies like using dry watercolor pallets or acrylic paints instead of oil paints and items already found around the home.
