National Nordic Museum Seeks Graphic Designer

Position Overview

The Graphic Designer supports all departments in the National Nordic Museum by creating visually compelling print and electronic communications that support the Museum’s mission and brand.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work with Marketing Manager to create visually compelling omnichannel marketing campaigns including digital, display, email, social, print, and mobile.
  • Under direction of Marketing Manager, lay out and produce bi-monthly Nordic News print newsletter and other seasonal print collateral as needed.
  • Provide graphics support for the Museum’s Exhibition and Programs team including exhibition labeling, signage, video slides, event programs, and other projects as desired.
  • Provide graphics support for the Museum’s Facilities team including interior and exterior signage, product design for the Museum Store, and other projects as desired.
  • Provide graphics support for the Development team including invitation and catalog for annual Auktion, quarterly Membership Recruitment mailings, product design for Donor and Member gifts, and other projects as desired.
  • Uphold brand identity in all areas as previously developed for the National Nordic Museum.
  • Maintain a graphics style guide for the Museum.
  • Manage multiple design projects and deadlines simultaneously with new requests from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to all departments within the Museum as well as external stakeholders.
  • Design and produce the Museum’s annual magazine, Nordic Kultur, within brand guidelines.
  • Manage external communications as pertaining to production and delivery of Museum collateral with outside vendors (printers, print brokers, and others).
  • Maintain digital graphic files, including Museum logos, sponsor logos, photos, and art.
  • Provide visual collateral for Museum website.
  • Proof all collateral including newsletters, flyers, invitations, rack cards, posters, catalogs, and other print and electronic material for maintenance of visual style and brand identity.
  • Assist Marketing team with brainstorming, marketing, and advertising strategies.
  • Be able to visually communicate with key stakeholders, both internal and external, on how to maintain and tell the brand story. As needed, support the Marketing Department by working with photographers, artists, interns, volunteers, and other designers on seasonal or special projects.

Other Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to perform all facets of pre-press production; imaging, sizing, color correction, page layout, and typesetting.
  • Experience with web, email, video, and other digital design
  • Excellent communication, effective listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with high energy and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure, use independent judgment, and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in design, graphic arts, or related field.
  • Proficient in Mac and PC platforms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Fluent in the Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator)
  • Ability to lift 20lbs
  • Ability to be seated/standing for extended periods.
  • Occasional weekend and evening work.
  • Valid driver’s license.
