Description:   The MILL (McCarty Innovation & Learning Lab) and The McMahon 8 Community Center are amenities spaces within HFS where academics, creativity, and play meet. The MILL is a hands-on workspace where the UW community comes together, both formally and informally, to imagine, discover, innovate and responsibly create. The McMahon 8 Community Center is a mix of both makerspace and recreational equipment.

The MILL and The 8 Maker is a student staff position with Housing & Food Services that is charged with administrative functions related to the daily operations of The MILL and The 8.

POSITION SUMMARY The Maker is responsible for providing superb customer service to residents, staff, faculty, and guests.  This position will support operations within The MILL or The 8 by ensuring safety of users and equipment, protocols are followed, completing equipment inventory, and assisting users of the space.  Additionally, the Maker will be responsible for following protocol for managing sales through a point of sale system and proper credentials for user access through an access system.

TYPICAL WORK • Greet users of the space upon their arrival  • Check users into the space by utilizing a database containing user agreement and training information • Complete check-in and check-out of equipment and rooms • Collect payments and document billing information for all transactions • Assist in maintaining accurate inventories of equipment • Respond to students and guests inquiries in a professional and courteous manner • Address policy violations and document utilizing Residential Life protocol • Assist in maintaining a safe environment by intervening and addressing misuse of resources and reporting emergencies immediately • Be knowledgeable about resources, policies, and procedures • Abide by all HFS, University, State, and federal laws and regulations • Perform other duties as assigned
