Industrial Designer

Job Position: Industrial Designer – Part-Time (potential for Full-Time)

Location: Remote – US based employee, preference within Washington state

About the Position: Eco-Shelter is seeking an industrial designer to develop designs and components for our bamboo composite roofing/building material. Components include, but are not limited to: fasteners, roof tie-down system, and attachment system. The Industrial Designer will report directly to the CEO and work with the team of technical partners at Washington State University. This position serves as an integral role within a design team of engineers in conceptualization of robust, varied and cost-effective systems that function in real world environments.

Responsibilities include:

– Research on who will use the product and various ways it will be installed and implemented

– Work with Research & Development (R&D) team to understand product requirements and limitations

– Sketch and model ideas and designs of components and systems

– Use computer software to develop virtual models of different designs

– Examine materials and production costs to determine manufacturing requirements

– Work with other specialists to evaluate whether design concepts will fill the need at a reasonable cost

– Evaluate product safety, appearance, and function to determine if design is practical

– Develop installation guides, renderings, and product specification sheets

Desired skills:

– A knack for hardware, tools, and machines

– Effective verbal and written communication skills, able to concisely articulate a concept

– Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills

– Project management with an ability to stay highly organized and detail-oriented

– Software proficiency in CAD programs, SolidWorks, AutoCad or equivalent.

– Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree

– 2-4 years of full-time work experience

– Background in architecture is a plus

– Graphic Design proficiency a plus
