EXPIRED: Work Study Postition(s) for Week Long Stone Carving Symposium

NWSSA’s mission is to nurture the community of stone sculptors by developing educational opportunities, providing a support system to members, and facilitating interaction with regional, national, and international communities.

The purpose of work-study is to provide artists and students that have a demonstrated financial need the opportunity to attend the symposium full-time. A work-study recipient may receive a substantial discount on the registration price in exchange for contributing labor toward the success of the event.

As a work-study recipient your primary responsibilities will be:
• Arrive by 9:30am on Friday July 5th to help with setup.
• Stay as late as 4pm Sunday July 13th to help with breakdown and clean-up.
• Check in with the field manager daily and be ready to lend a hand with any field support needs.
• Set up the field for the sculpture show.
• Assist with silent/live auction display and organization or with the party set-up and clean up.
• Assist registrar, director, and field managers with general event tasks.

The symposium relies on work-studies to readily support the staff through the week. You are also expected to make the most of your discount by spending lots of time carving! With this in mind, we do our best to allow you to retain nearly all of your field time. While needs fluctuate, it is fair to anticipate working all day Friday July 5th and Saturday the 6th, all day Sunday July 13th, up to half the day for auction preparation, and approximately an hour a day otherwise throughout the week.
Work-Study award recipients must be in good health and be able to lift 50 pounds. As you work directly with the symposium director, field director, and registrar you will be a vital part of the team that helps ensure the symposium is a success.

The DEADLINE for work-study applications is Saturday, June 1st 2023. No exceptions. Early application is highly encouraged. You will be notified no later than June 15th regarding the status of your work-study application.
