Seattle ReCreative promotes creativity, community, and environmental stewardship through creative reuse and arts education. ReCreative fulfills this mission by collecting donations of used materials that might otherwise end up in the landfill and redistributing them to our community through our retail shop and art classes. The creative reuse center, which includes a community workshop, retail store, and children’s play space, has been open on Greenwood Avenue since January 2015. As Seattle’s first creative reuse center, ReCreative has been enthusiastically welcomed by the community and is a growing organization on a path to success. .
Seattle ReCreative is seeking an Arts Programs Intern to support and expand the organization’s arts education and exhibitions efforts.
Arts Programs Intern Tasks:

Aiding in the development and implementation of ReCreative’s classes and workshops.

Promoting ReCreative’s events and programs through online channels by: posting event information on free online calendars, contacting local media, writing newsletter features, reaching out to partner organizations, drafting press releases, etc.

Supporting ReCreative’s monthly exhibitions by: assisting in the coordination of gallery exhibitions and calls for submissions, installing artwork, coordinating monthly Art Walk events, and managing Artist Marketplace program.

Providing support to the Marketing & Communications Committee and help Implement ReCreative’s marketing plan as needed.

Photographing events, classes, and other opportunities to use in organization’s promotional materials.
Desired Qualifications:

Strong written and oral communication skills, including writing for a variety of audiences and platforms.

Experience teaching or facilitating arts educational programs.

Experience or strong interest in nonprofit organizations.

Interest in both environmental issues and/or alternative art and arts education (ideally both).

Detailed-oriented, self-starter who can take a project and run with it.

Experience in photography (desired but not necessary)
Relevant Details:

Internship length: We would like a minimum of a 3-month commitment, with the possibility to extend depending on the intern’s interests and organization’s needs.

Schedule: 8-10 hours/week. The weekly schedule can be flexible, depending on the intern’s other commitments. The intern should be extremely available and responsive by email.
Benefits to the Intern:
This is an unpaid position and we are happy to work with the student to arrange for college credit. Other benefits include: $20 monthly craft credit in the store and invitation to volunteer appreciation events.
