For the Community

CEEH in The Community

The CEEH has always had a strong commitment to research translation and outreach, and has included a Community Outreach and Education Core (COEC) in its administrative structure since the CEEH was originally funded in 1995. Reaching beyond the walls of the University of Washington, CEEH researchers and staff have engaged with community groups, tribal nations, legislators and agency staff, in challenging discussions of race, poverty, and pollution. Community events such as town meetings and discussion forums laid the groundwork for the CEEH and COEC's on-going commitment to a truly bi-directional capacity building process. COEC staff have established a presence in the region and earned a reputation as a trusted partner to community groups, educators, and Tribal Nations.

For the past several years our COEC has focused much of its work on the ethical, legal, and social implications of environmental health research. To reflect this emphasis, the core is now called the Community Outreach & Ethics Core. Same acroynm, new name!
