CERSE Research Scientist Erin Carll Research Co-PI on UW Department of Statistics NSF Award

The University of Washington’s Department of Statistics recently secured a $1.1 million, six-year National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarship in STEM (S-STEM) award to support its work on the Pacific Alliance for Low Income Inclusion in Statistics and Data Science (PALiISaDS). This alliance will provide participating students a three-year bridge program with financial support, research opportunities, and mentoring as they go from their undergraduate to graduate education in statistics and data science.

In addition, the NSF award will fund research about how PALiISaDS supports students as they pursue degrees and careers in statistics and data science, especially with respect to the community assets and supports they have when they join PALiISaDS and how they boost these resources during the program. The research effort will be led by CERSE’s Dr. Erin Carll who is a co-PI on the project.

Department of Statistics Chair and Professor Abel Rodriguez is the PI leading UW’s efforts on this project. The grant is part of a multi-institutional $5,000,000 award for PALiISaDS, which is led by University of California-Santa Barbara Professor of Statistics and Applied Probability Michael Ludkovski and includes the University of California-Irvine, California Polytechnic State University, California State University – Monterey Bay, California State University – East Bay, and San Diego State University.
