CFRM Welcomes New Instructors

The Computational Finance and Risk Management (CFRM) program welcomed two new instructors for the 2019-2020 academic year: Ore Adekoya and Nam Lee.

Ore Adekoya comes to the University of Washington from the University of Oklahoma, where she earned her bachelor’s and PhD in Mathematics with a research focus on PDE models for waves and applied mathematics. Since moving to Seattle in September, Ore has enjoyed the change of scenery and local food options.

“I like that Seattle has more organic-based products available in comparison to where I previously lived,” Ore says. “And the fact that Seattle roads are not flat makes moving around more adventurous,” she adds.

This academic year also marks the first full cycle of the undergraduate Computational Finance minor sequence since it was introduced in winter 2019. This resulted in Ore’s CFRM 405 course being in high demand, with record-breaking enrollment for a CFRM undergraduate course.

Nam Lee joins the CFRM program with industry experience as a senior data scientist at Expedia Group. He previously taught Financial Mathematics at Johns Hopkins University and worked as a data science researcher at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Nam holds a PhD in Mathematics from UC San Diego.

“Nam’s teaching experience is both extensive and impressive,” says CFRM Program Director Tim Leung. “He has taught various quantitative finance courses, ranging from investment science to financial econometrics, in a peer program for years. Moreover, his knowledge in finance and data science will be a great asset to CFRM as we continue our efforts in Financial Data Analytics.” Nam is teaching CFRM 420 this quarter.

Welcome to the University of Washington, Ore and Nam!
