Application Information

Application procedures and deadlines depend on the program:

CFRM MS Degree Applications

Step one: take a thorough look at the information about the degree program in the MS degree section of the CFRM website.

Step two: review and gather the complete set of required materials listed on the UW Graduate School website

Step three:  Complete the application process at the UW Graduate School website

Step four: if you are offered admission, you will be given guidance on how to complete additional steps, F-1 visa applications if required, and make arrangements to enroll at UW as a graduate student.  Please be aware that admissions offers are sometimes conditional on completing preparatory coursework at the determination of the admissions committee; these preparatory courses are offered in the summer immediately before your degree program begins and may be taken either online or on campus at your preference.

Computational Finance Certificate Applications

Step one: review the program information and admissions requirements to make sure you’re a good fit.  You should also look at the QF certificate coursework, which is designed to prepare you for the CF certificate.

Step two: prepare your one-page personal statement, an up-to-date professional resume, and gather information on your academic background (unofficial transcripts, old course syllabi, or course descriptions from your university may be helpful in completing some of the requested information).

Step three: complete the online application form.

Step four: if we extend an offer of admission to you, you will complete a registration process with UW PCE.  Please do not begin this process until you have received a decision from us, as the PCE application fees are nonrefundable.

Step five (OPTIONAL): if you are interested in applying for the MS degree in the future, you must also submit a GNM application to the UW Graduate School.  Up to 12 credits taken in the certificate program with GNM status will apply toward the MS credit requirements.  If you do not plan on applying for the graduate degree, you can skip this step.  You must apply for the certificate program separately–a GNM application by itself is not sufficient for certificate admission–and your GNM status must be approved prior to the start of classes in order to transfer credit.

Quantitative Fundamentals Certificate Applications

Please note:  UW undergraduate students are not required to apply for the certificate program.  Simply enroll in each required course through MyUW and contact us once you have completed all three courses so we can submit your name to PCE to issue a certificate.

Step one: review the QF program information and admissions requirements to make sure you’re a good fit.

You should not apply for GNM status during this program, as the 400-level courses do not count toward MS requirements.

Single Course Enrollment in Certificate Courses

If you do not want to complete the entire certificate program and only need one course, the following courses are available for individual enrollment:  CFRM 405, 410, 415, 420, 425, 501, 502, and 503.  Please pay special attention to the course prerequisites before applying for a single course, as these courses are designed to be taken in series.  Only highly qualified candidates will be admitted as single course enrollment (SCE) students.  To apply for SCE:

Step one:  review the course descriptions and prerequisites

Step two: prepare your one-page personal statement, an up-to-date professional resume, and gather information on your academic background (unofficial transcripts, old course syllabi, or course descriptions from your university may be helpful in completing some of the requested information).

Step three: complete the online application form.

Step four: if we approve your application, you will receive registration instructions to complete with UW PCE.

Single Course Enrollment in MS Elective Courses

For certain very highly qualified candidates, individual elective courses from the master’s program are available for registration.  If you would like to enroll in a course that is not among the eight SCE courses listed above, you will need to be approved by CFRM and obtain GNM status through the UW Graduate School.  Please contact us with a copy of your resume, academic background, and the specific courses you’re interested in taking for more information.
