Student Activities

UW Financial Engineering Club

New for 2015-2016, the Financial Engineering Club is a registered student organization co-founded by CFRM students and UW math and finance undergraduate students.  FE Club activities include regular member meetings and discussions, a mock case competition, professional networking events, and participation in open source R package development. The Departments of Economics and Applied Mathematics are proud to support this independent, student-run organization.  For more information, please visit their website at

Women’s Association of Quants

WAQ was created for female students in the CFRM program to have a support system, to make connections with like-minted women in quantitative finance, for career orientation and guidance, and to give back to the the Puget Sound community through volunteering. WAQ has been able to collaborate with Russell Investments and Parametric Portfolio Associates to hold networking events, and we have volunteered with Zeno Math.

Formal and Informal Study Groups

CFRM students are encouraged to develop ad-hoc study groups on campus to collaborate on teaching and learning, as well as preparation for exams in the program and professional certifications.  Students studying for CFA, FRM, SOA, or other professional certification exams may especially benefit from collaboration, and space is available in Lewis Hall for this purpose.
