4-Digit Code FASD Diagnostic Outcomes Worldwide

Comparing FASD Diagnostic Outcomes Across Clinics
With
the creation of the 4-Digit Diagnostic Code and the expansion of it's use worldwide (35 countries), we are now in a position, for the first time ever, to compare and contrast FASD diagnostic outcomes across clinical/research sites.

The year 2023 marked the 30th year of the Washington State FASDPN clinic. Over 3,000 patients, infant through adult, with prenatal alcohol exposure received an FASD diagnostic evaluation by an interdisciplinary team using the 4-Digit Code. All outcomes and exposures were entered into the FASDPN clinical database with patient consent and Human Subjects approval.

The 4-Digit Code Ranks for Growth, Face, Brain and Alcohol as well as the FASD diagnostic outcomes for WA FASDPN patients are posted in the following formats.

It is important to note that these diagnostic outcomes DO NOT reflect population-based prevalence rates for the different geographic regions. There are many factors that influence
which individuals request and receive an FASD diagnosis (access to diagnostic services, knowledge of prenatal alcohol exposure, caregiver willingness to participate in a FASD diagnostic evaluation, medical insurance coverage, etc.). One factor that is not influencing potential contrasts between the FASD outcomes is the use of a single FASD diagnostic system, the FASD 4-Digit Code.
