This two-day training introduces interdisciplinary clinical teams to the methods used by the Washington State FAS Diagnostic & Prevention Network (FAS DPN) to screen, diagnose, and prevent FASD. A typical interdisciplinary clinical team includes a pediatrician, psychologist, speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, and family / maternal advocate. The training includes didactic lectures, direct observation of a real diagnostic evaluation, and hands-on practice sessions.

At the conclusion of this Training, participants will:
- Know the full spectrum of outcomes associated with prenatal alcohol exposure called Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
- Recognize the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to FASD screening, diagnosis and prevention.
- Know how to use the (2004) FASD 4-Digit Diagnostic Code created by the FAS DPN.

- Who Provides the Training?

This training is provided by the University of Washington FAS DPN interdisciplinary clinical team. This team includes a pediatrician, two psychologists, a speech-language pathologist, an occupational therapist, a social worker, a family advocate, and a clinical researcher/public health professional. This clinical team has over 25 years of experience in the field of FASD and has diagnosed over 2,000 patients since the interdisciplinary clinic first opened in 1993.

The Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Diagnostic & Prevention Network (FAS DPN) is a network of four Washington State community-based clinics linked by the core clinical / research / training clinic at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Each clinic in the network uses the same interdisciplinary approach to diagnosis and the same systematic diagnostic method, the FASD 4-Digit Diagnostic Code.
The mission of the FAS DPN is primary and secondary prevention of FAS through screening, diagnosis, intervention, training, education, and research.

- Who is the Training Intended For?

The training is designed for clinical teams who wish to establish an interdisciplinary FASD diagnostic clinic in their community, using the FASD 4-Digit Diagnostic Code. A clinical team is typically comprised of a medical doctor, psychologist, speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, and family advocate.
Each training hosts a single clinical team. Up to 9 individuals may attend the training.

This 2-day training is offered at least once per quarter. All trainings are held on Thursday-Friday. Clinical teams are given several training dates to select from.

The University of Washington offers this 2-day training at cost. The costs of instruction and training materials are:
- Cost of instruction: $5,300 per team.
- Cost of Training Materials: $77 to $127 per team member.
Training Materials include: (2004) FASD Diagnostic Guide; Lip-Philtrum Guides 1 and 2; Palpebral Fissure Length Ruler; FAS Facial Photographic Analysis Software; Training Notebook.
The clinical team may include up to nine team members. These training costs are subject to change.
