Conclusion |
|
Despite their differences, the Lupercalia, Festa deNoantri, Holy Week at the Vatican and Santo Bambino celebrations at S. Maria in Aracoeli all exhibit many of the same connecting themes. In each we see evidence that festivals and ceremonial processions exist primarily for the people who celebrate them. They are a way of building and perpetuating a community by defining time, space, physical boundaries, by connecting the past and the present and as a device for social control.
