Three Months at the University of Washington:

Doctoral and post-doctoral trainees will be selected each year to spend three months at the University of Washington in Seattle starting in early September to:

• Participate in a weekly clinical preceptorship in stroke management or rehabilitation medicine at Harborview Medical Center
• Attend the weekly stroke conference at Harborview with discussion of recent stroke patients and didactic lectures
• Enroll in courses on epidemiology, biostatistics, or other subjects relevant to cerebrovascular disease research
• Engage in weekly meetings with mentors to develop a research protocol to be conducted in Peru
• Attend the "Responsible Conduct of International Research" course

Master's Degree Support:

Doctoral and postdoctoral trainees can apply for support of master's degree training in Peru or Seattle.

More information on the two-year Master's in Clinical Epidemiology degree program at UPCH can be found on their website. The MPH program at the University of Washington offers three focuses to choose from: Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Global Health. Trainees would spend nine months (September through June) in Seattle, followed by nine months in Peru implementing a thesis research project, and three months in Seattle completing coursework and thesis.

• All trainees will be expected to design and complete a thesis project related to cerebrovascular disease.

Research Projects:

All medium and long-term trainees are eligible to apply for funding to support implementation of a research project in Peru. Trainees who successfully complete projects can also apply for support to present research findings at an international conference.

Eligibility criteria for Training Programs:

• Peruvian nationality
• Doctoral or post-doctoral level
• Previous experience and commitment to clinical cerebrovascular diseases research
• Trainees who wish to apply for training in Seattle should possess a good command of the English language.
