About Nephrology Day

Nephrology Days started in 1985 as part of our regionalized medical education program for Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WAMI). The Days are supported by the Northwest Renal Society, whose sole purpose is to plan and conduct each meetings. Membership dues for the Northwest Renal Society and outside grants provide financial backing.

Approximately 180 nephrologists from Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Montana, Idaho and British Columbia belong to the Society and about 75 attend each session.

The program committee plans the agenda for each Nephrology Day. A major theme, such as transplantation, dialysis, or hypertension, is selected with input from the membership. One or two prominent outside speakers known for their research and teaching are invited to each meeting and usually asked to speak twice: once on his/her research and once on clinical aspects in his/her area of expertise. The guest speaker is paid an honorarium and is reimbursed for all expenses related to the meetings. Other speakers rounding out the agenda are faculty from the University of Washington and the University of Oregon.

Starting in 2012, Nephrology Days will be held at the Center for Urban Horticulture, part of the University of Washington Botanic Gardens. Lunch and refreshment breaks are included.
