Pain, Aging, and Integrated Rehabilitation (PAIR) Lab

Our why:
To reduce the impacts of chronic pain and aging so that all people can engage in activities they value.
Our mission:
To develop effective and sustainable integrative care programs that improve pain and functioning in adults aging with chronic pain.

Our research:
Older adults identify chronic pain as a primary cause of disability and a health care priority. Therefore, we engage and partner with patients, health systems, and communities to develop, implement, and evaluate interventions that integrate movement-based treatments (e.g., walking, physical therapy) and psychological treatments (e.g., CBT, ACT, MBIs) to improve pain management and reduce falls risk in adults aging with chronic pain. In rural communities, we work to make these treatments more accessible through telehealth, innovative clinical pathways involving community partnerships, and care coordination. We also conduct epidemiologic, health services, and mixed methods research to inform the development of interventions and the design of clinical trials.
