Pilot Studies:
I’M Walking
We are engaging rural and non-rural older patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain to co-design an Integrative Mindfulness-based Walking (I’M Walking) program in primary care.
Explanatory Trials:
Pain & Aging: Combined Interventions for Fitness in the Community (PACIFIC) Study
The PACIFIC Study is testing whether group exercise in combination with education on aging and health or behavioral health improves pain and physical function in older adults with knee arthritis.
Biomarkers for Evaluation Spine Treatments (BEST)
BEST is a clinical trial sponsored by NIAMS as a part of NIH HEAL Initiative’s Back Pain Consortium (BACPAC) Research Program, which is a translational, patient-centered effort to address the need for effective and personalized therapies for chronic low back pain (cLBP).
Pragmatic Trials:
Delivery of Enhanced Fitness Trial (DEFT)
DEFT is a non-inferiority study evaluating the remote delivery of an evidence-based exercise program called Enhance Fitness among arthritic adults.
Adapting and Implementing a Nurse care Management Model to Care for Rural Patients with Chronic Pain (AIM-CP)
AIM-CP is adapting and testing a Nurse Care Management model to provide comprehensive coordinated care for patients with chronic pain in rural communities.
Engagement with partners:
Lummi Nation Health Center
In partnership with the Lummi Nation Health Center, we are applying an appreciative inquiry approach to conducting an asset-based community health assessment for falls prevention among elders in the Lummi Nation.
Rural Health Systems
In partnership with rural-serving health systems, we interviewed and surveyed primary care providers on developing care pathways for older patients with knee osteoarthritis, including prescribing exercise and referral to Tele-Enhance Fitness.
