MEDIC 11/18

Hello Everyone, On Monday, November 18 from 4:30 to 6, MEDIC will be holding a meeting in Health Sciences T-wing room 359. Kaia and Jane will be leading a discussion on pharmaceutical research ethics, with a focus on high cost of orphan drugs and publication bias. If you have any interesting related cases or ideas to share, feel free to bring them! If you want to get a head start in preparation for Monday’s meeting, we encourage you to follow the Seattle Times’ Pharma investigation on the Orphan Drug Act: http://apps.seattletimes.com/reports/pharma-windfall/2013/nov/9/mining-rare-diseases/ http://apps.seattletimes.com/reports/pharma-windfall/2013/nov/9/seattle-biotech-orphan-drug/ And on publication bias: http://www.theguardian.com/science/2013/oct/29/scientists-fears-over-unpublished-drug-trials Navigating the Health Sciences building can be tricky. Enter through the main T wing entrance, go down to the third floor, turn right, turn left at the first hallway on your left, and when that hallway tees, room 359 is just to your right. Bring your friends! Snacks will be provided! If you have any questions, feel free to email us at medicuw@uw.edu and be sure to like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/medicuw for updates about MEDIC and bioethics in the media. Hope to see you there!
