Nursing Volunteer opportunity

Pre-Nursing Volunteer Opportunity: Bryant Elementary School Health Room Assistant Volunteer as a Health Room Assistant in our Health Room during the school year starting in early Sept through mid-June. Health Room Assistants volunteer for approximately 2 hour shifts on Monday, Thursday and Friday between 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. when our school nurse is not working. There is some overlap with the nurse but it is limited. This is a unique hands-on opportunity to develop and demonstrate skills with children grades K-5 in assisting them in addressing their first aid needs and health complaints. Health Room volunteers assist children when they present with complaints such as: fever, stomach ache, headache, toothache, bloody nose, insect bites/stings, cuts/scrapes and sprains. Health Room Volunteers document all visits by completing a daily health log using correct terminology, chief complaint, limited assessment and disposition. All volunteers attend an orientation at Bryant Elementary and complete a background check. Volunteers also assist our school nurse in October with hearing/vision screenings for all enrolled students. Health Room Volunteers work under the indirect guidance of the School Nurse and any questions are referred to school staff for clarification. Minimum qualifications are: Pre-nursing student with current CPR/First Aid certificate or Pre-nursing student with CNA certification Open Shifts: Spring Quarter 2014 starting March 31, 2014 Thursday 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. April 22, May 27, June 10: 12:30-3:30 p.m. Staff the Health Room when our school nurse attends a monthly district nurse meeting.
