So, what exactly is UW Leaders?
UW Leaders (UWL) is a program of the Associated Students of University of Washington (ASUW) that offers leadership-building opportunities for first, second, and transfer third-year students. Through a dedicated focus on Community, Mentorship, and Leadership Development we strive to prepare students to be effective leaders that drive and create change in their communities both on and off campus. Whether students have been involved in past leadership or want to start now, UW Leaders maximizes their leadership potential and welcomes them into a close-knit community of accomplished individuals.

Community: One of the core values of UW Leaders is the importance of Community. Through the initial kick-off retreat at the beginning of Winter Quarter and weekly workshops you will have the opportunity to create a tight-knit community with fellow Leaders in the program and Mentor staff who are passionate about seeing you succeed and achieve your goals during your time at the UW.

Mentorship: Within UW Leaders one of the most impactful portions of the program is Mentorship. Leaders in the program are paired with one of our 19 mentors in the program who have extensive involvement and leadership experience. Mentors within UWL strive to support our leaders be successful in whatever they choose to do during their time at UW. Whether personal, professional or academic, Mentors work hard to connect you with resources, opportunities (and the best food spots) in order maximize your Husky Experience. Be sure to check out our Instagram here to meet the Mentors! (@uwleaders)

Leadership & Professional Development: UW Leaders is a student run and student driven program. Our staff of 19 Mentors work hard together to plan and develop weekly workshops that cover a vast array of topics that are essential to being an effective leader.

Workshops in the past have covered topics such as:

  • Resume building
  • Communication styles
  • Conflict resolution
  • Self care
  • Mock interviews
  • Failing Forward
  • & many more!

The Mentors distill their combined experiences to create interactive workshops that teach you tangible and useful to help you succeed while at the UW.
Overall the best way to describe UW Leaders is a tight-knit community that is committed to your personal growth. Folks who thrive in UW Leaders are passionate and driven individuals who are looking to find a community that will support them and present them with a multitude of opportunities for growth and development.
