We define environmental stewardship quite broadly. We include any organization that conserves, manages, cares for, monitors, advocates for, or educates the public about local environments. We do this intentionally because we want to highlight and acknowledge many different strategies that can be taken in environmental work.
We think of an organization's stewardship "turf" as the area in which that organization conducts stewardship activity. In the survey, we asked each organization where they had worked in the past year, and used these descriptions to draw the boundaries that you see on the maps. For some organizations, the displayed area represents the boundaries of all of their activies or area of focus. For others, it demonstrates the location of their specific projects.
We're currently working on building the capacity for organizations to add their information and make this resource more complete. If this is something you would be interested in, please let us know by filling out the contact form. Demonstrating your interest is the best way to encourage the project to continue moving forward.
This website was made by graduate students at the University of Washington with support from the U.S. Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Research Station, and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The content for the site has been collected through an effort coordinated by the Green Cities Research Alliance and included the University of Washington, the U.S. Forest Service, the University of Vermont, Forterra, and many others.
We haven't yet set up a place to download the information you see on the site. However, if you use the form to contact us, we may be able to accomodate specific requests.
In the organization description, if the "Where" field says "(not provided)", that organization did not provide a description of were they work. If the "Where" field does not say "(not provided)", please refresh the page and select the organization again. If this doesn't work, please contact us and let us know which organization is not loading properly so that we can fix it.
